VÃtor Fernandes
Associate Professor
Complutense University of Madrid
Spain
Biography
VÃtor Fernandes, PhD (Pharmacology / Physiology) from the Universidad Complutense (Madrid, 2015), completed his graduation programme in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Pharmacy. His research work focused on the physiology and pharmacology of the peripheral nervous system, contributing to the understanding of the role played by the gasotransmitters in the urogenital function. Furthermore, he carried out a graduate training in electrophysiology at the Department of Drugs Discovery and Biomedical Sciences from the University of South Carolina (Columbia, SC, USA), collaborating for the study of novel regulatory pathways and mechanisms that involve ion channels. He did a PostDoc in the Intercellular Signaling in Cardiovascular Development and Disease’s group in the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research and he is still collaborating as a Visiting Scientist where is studying the molecular mechanisms involved in cardiac disease under a condition of altered NOTCH signalling pathway. He achieved expertise in the state-of-art patch-clamp electrophysiology, myography, confocal microscopy, imaging approaches, functional studies on muscle contractility, pharmacological and molecular biological techniques. This has resulted in several peer-reviewed papers published in top ranking journals in the field. Dr. Fernandes has collaborated in the editorial and reviewing process for several journals. He was awarded for the best communications in different conferences.
